I always love that logic ... our planet is too dangerous and dying, so we have to leave to make sure we survive

At this point in our evolution ... we would ensure our long term survival in our galaxy if we stayed put and maintained our current environment. It's the only liveable atmosphere, environment and planet that we know of that we can live on and have access to.

How are we going to restart life on Mars where there is no atmosphere or resources when we're doing such a terrible job maintaining the existing atmosphere and environment we were born into?

I always like burning house metaphors .... space exploration to save our species at this point in time is like burning your house down, telling everyone you can't live there any more and saying that you're leaving to go live somewhere else where you can decorate a better bedroom. Except your burning house is located in an isolated desert with no shelter for hundreds of miles around.

Read, read, read .... then read some more. Don't just read entertainment and easy fiction. Read history books and works by famous writers. Look up a list of top 100 books that are highly recommended and read them. Read about famous people, famous places, famous battles, famous periods and moments in history.

Read so that you'll have a better understanding of why we live in the world we live in.

If you don't figure out for yourself what this world is and why it is the way it is ..... someone else will do it for you ... and that someone else will not have your best interests in mind.

Having a broad knowledge of many things also protects you because it will allow you to speak for yourself with confidence. You may not get everything right, no one ever fully does but at least you'll be able to speak for yourself. You'll also more easily be capable of seeing bullshit in the world and form your own opinions. Just remember to be kind, to learn empathy and understanding ... if the ideas or writers or personalities you follow teach you anger, fear and hate, then you are definitely headed into a dark place.

I read on my own more often now but I just wish I had done more so when I was younger.

.... and like others have said, take care of your teeth, eat less sugar, the better your habits the more likely you'll stick to those habits for life.

I think digital security has the same problem as national parks organizations developing bear proof garbage cans

Develop a garbage can lid that is complex enough to discourage the most intelligent bear while making it accessible to the dumbest human .... which is why they continually have a bear problem because the two groups often overlap one another.

We're going to have the same problem with AI bots creating fake accounts ... how do you create a system to avoid the smartest AI while making it accessible to the dumbest humans.

The Inuit (formerly called the derogatory 'Eskimos') have a taste for fermented whale blubber.

The Scandinavians also have a taste for fermented seafood.

There's something about living in freezing weather and developing a taste for semi rotten food.

RIP to Jeffery Hunter the actor who played the original Christopher Pike ... I'm actually watching The Original Series with my wife (which is a small miracle) and as we watch, we research and look up little facts and details about the show. Jeffery Hunter at the time was a handsome leading man with a great career in film and television. He had a stunt accident in 1969 which injured him and led to his death shortly after, at the age of 42 - five years after making his appearance as the first Star Trek captain in 1964. He would never know his important place in Star Trek fandom almost 60 years later.

98! wow .... lucky you ... if my grandmother was still around, I'd operate everything for her myself and allow her to use me as her personal butler. I'd want to make her life as easy as possible.

Good for you and I hope she is happy and well ... we should be so lucky to see as much life as she has ... my best wishes to her and your family.

I'm Indigenous Canadian and I remember living with my 90 year grandfather in the 1980s ... he was an Ojibway/Cree hunter trapper who was born in the bush and lived on the land all his life and he was a first world war veteran (he never saw action but he was the first in our family to see Europe). He only spoke our language and knew just a few English words (which is amazing because he had been to England and back and never bothered to learn English). Our whole family spoke our language so we were freely able to listen to all his stories. We took lots of pictures back then but for some strange reason, we don't have many photos of him. We just took for granted that he was there and that someone, somewhere was taking pictures ... but it turned out that not enough people did.

I only remember bits and pieces because I was a wild kid that never sat at home ... now I just wish I had spent more time with him, taken photos and even video recorded him. I'll always remember him sitting outside our front door in the summer in his warm wool clothes soaking up the warm sun. We live in a cold part of the country so the sun and warmth were always important to him. He had so much history, so much information and so much to share ... I will forever feel bad about losing all that.

Which is why I want to say ... take lots of photos ... record a video ... record her voice, even if you don't understand ... record as much as possible and often ... those recordings, the pictures and the sounds will become precious memories you'll treasure for life. I remember what my grandfather sounded like ... but I just wish I could hear him again.

I've gone under five times in my life for minor surgeries. Nothing ever happened ... but on the fifth on, it was about the same time I got to know a few long time nurses and a doctor friend of mine. They gave me a huge insight into the medical profession. That was when I realized that one of the things that can happen when you go under is .... you just never wake up.

When you go unconscious, you aren't going to sleep or going into some dream world ... you're more or less dead for a while.

I went into a my fifth surgery to fix a tendon in my arm and it was probably the most scared I'd been as the world went black. As soon as the anaesthetist injected me and told me to count ... the only thing I could think of was that this was the last thing I would ever experience.

The world disregards human life so easily in so many parts of the world ... why should anyone have any respect for my dead body.
